So I have this shirt that I picked up that I quite love a long long time ago, and I realize that I don't have any slacks or ties that go with it. if I send a picture, do you think you might be able to help out?
I’ll definitely see what I can do to help if at all possible!
Oh my gosh, you go to Dragon*Con? Do you attend any tracks in particular, or should I just keep my eyes out for a dapper gentleman when I'm there?
Yep! I love Dragon*Con! It really depends on the year. I’ll also probably be in costumes most of the weekend, so I won’t necessarily be dapper. This year it’s looking like I’ll be cosplaying Prince Gumball, Rarity and Jaime Lannister. :)
Hello, I was wondering if you had any reference to black-tie outfits using tailcoats. I want to coordinate a tuxedo outfit using a tailed coat, but I am kind of lost as to how to coordinate it. Color-wise I want an ivory shirt or a colored vest (not both though for I feel it would be too much), and plan on wearing either an ascot tie or a jabot. Do you have any advice as to how I should do this?
My advice is to start with a concept. Try to figure out the overall look you want. Maybe use photos/images as a style board. I would also recommend using The Black Tie Guide as a reference. I’ve linked you to their section on tailcoats. The section is focused on white tie evening wear (tailcoat, white shirt, white vest, white bow tie), but it has some excellent information even if you don’t want to go white tie. You’ve got a great base to work from as a tail coat can look absolutely smashing. I hope this helps!
Which ones? I think I have worn 4 in photos. The silver band with garnets in it is from 3 Rexes jewelry. The one with gears is from Kinekt. The bloodletting ring is by Marché Noir, which sadly doesn’t seem to be around anymore. And the roman numerals ring was a gift.
You are indubitably dapper, my good sir. Your style is amazing, I'd love to see people dressed as well as you are some day. But on to my question! Owning such classy attire must cost a lot, yes? Do you make a lot of your outfits, or just have a lot of unique suits around your home? I'd love to know where to buy such fine articles of clothing.
Thank you very much! It is certainly costly, but I try to keep cost down by shopping sales, thrift and vintage stores, and ebay. I’ve put up a few posts on places to shop online and it’s always worth investigating your local thrift/vintage stores! You never know what you might find!
Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living? Does your career call for you to leave the house and dress at least business casual, or do you simply make an effort to leave the house everyday looking snazzy?
I run a website, blog and social media for the company I work for. There’s no dress code, I just make an effort to leave the house everyday looking snazzy. :)
My favorite of your outfits is a step in time. The colors go together amazingly and the bronze accessories look great (I guess you could call them that). Looks like something Leonardo De Vinci would wear today.
I was curious about two things, the first being (if fan requests are permissable), have you ever thought of meshing the aesthetics of Heavy Metal with the raiments of a refined gothic gentleman such as yourself? Also, I plan on cosplaying Illusive (Genderbent Rarity) and I remember you were saying you had done so in the past...would it be possible for you to dig up those pictures and post them? I'd love to see what you did and possibly glean some ideas from the pictures.
First, I absolutely take fan requests. And yours is definitely an interesting one. I’ll see what I can come up with and I’ll post something! Though it may take me a little while to get something up as I’m in a production of ! I’ll see what I can do about pulling together some photos of me as Genderbent Rarity.
